Blog post #4 Are fainting goats really fainting?

These little guys are so cute! But do they really faint? According to science they have a condition called "Myotonia Congenita" a muscular issue that causes them to stiffen up, freeze and fall over. They are usually startled or scared by some source or obnoxious person or kid. People get a kick out of making them fall over again an again. So if you decide to get one as a pet, keep your demented friends away. This breed is not a common type and breeders choose them for mainly the meat. They are quite athletic after all. They really enjoy jumping from platforms to anything in a short distance as they have very short legs. These goats have a special handling tag attached to them and they do require extra care. As cute as they are, surely there is some down side? I have not found one yet except that because they are small they are susceptible to predators, so a good enclosed pen is a must. Enjoy this little clip of the little guys jumping on hay bales.

  1. I never thought about them just freezing in place due to a muscle issue. judging by it being not common, i feel it would be safe to assume its a breeding trait

  2. Hi, that is strange. I never would have thought it was because of a muscle problem they have. I wonder if their condition of freezing also makes it safer for them to live in a pen because they would not be able to escape predators.

Blog post #8 Why are pink diamonds pink?

http://www.diamondbuyers.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Diamond-Buyers-Blog-Pink-Diamond-Facts.png   Have you ever thought why pink diamonds are pink? Or why any diamond has a color? Not so long ago the only diamonds anyone really cared about were white. As we see now though, the other colors have became more popular too, like yellow and brown or blue. Mostly women began to wear the diamonds in mixes of colors and a variety of designs, but the demand for rare pink diamonds increased, making it more valuable.    The rare pink diamonds come from the Argyle Mines, in northern Australia, only a few are produced each year. Studies on the pink diamond have shown no real results on why the diamonds are pink. One idea or theory is there was an incredible cataclysmic event, of two continents coming together and pulling apart again, leaving a volcanic scar on the land, and this is where the pink diamond and other diamonds come from in Australia. Geologist have dated this area and m...

Blog post #9 Healthy Hearts

https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/images/factsheets/nutrition/nutritional-heart.jpg?_=55985   Did you know you can have a healthy heart and still be at risk for heart disease? That's correct, your age and diet can affect how your hearts health continues as you age. Young people who consume diets of heavily processed food for years become the group with a high risk for heart disease and stroke due to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. As of now the CDC recommends a calorie intake of less than 2,300 mg a day. Unfortunately most Americans take in 3,400 mg a day, that is way too much! Good news though, you can lower your risk by eating foods with less sodium and saturated fats. Eat more food that is higher in fiber and try working out 3 to 4 days a week, or at least walking daily.   Eating better is proven to stop the onset of type 2 diabetes, many people who are overweight and obese suffer from this or at least pre-diabetes.  So it really is up to us as adults...

Blog post #7: The film "Fresh"

What will it be today?             https://wallsdesk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Fast-Food-for-desktop-background.jpg       The movie "Fresh" is about our industrialized food production in its current state, and how it has become all about profit and shortcuts instead of healthy and naturally grown animals and food. It also introduces new thinking, by people who trying to make changes to how we grow, buy and consume our food. This film is a must see for anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge about the production of our main meat, poultry and dairy suppliers. It shows the true side of how animals are grown and what conditions they are forced to live in until their short lives are ended, and they are sent off to become boxed, fast food meals, or grocery store items and animal foods. Yes meat and animal by-product is remade into food for animals that are not intended to eat other animals. Now I believe you will want to see this f...
