These little guys are so cute! But do they really faint? According to science they have a condition called
"Myotonia Congenita" a muscular issue that causes them to stiffen up, freeze and fall over. They are usually startled or scared by some source or obnoxious person or kid. People get a kick out of making them fall over again an again. So if you decide to get one as a pet, keep your demented friends away. This breed is not a common type and breeders choose them for mainly the meat. They are quite athletic after all. They really enjoy jumping from platforms to anything in a short distance as they have very short legs. These goats have a special handling tag attached to them and they do require extra care. As cute as they are, surely there is some down side? I have not found one yet except that because they are small they are susceptible to predators, so a good enclosed pen is a must. Enjoy this little clip of the little guys jumping on hay bales.
https://www.cdc.gov/chronicdisease/images/factsheets/nutrition/nutritional-heart.jpg?_=55985 Did you know you can have a healthy heart and still be at risk for heart disease? That's correct, your age and diet can affect how your hearts health continues as you age. Young people who consume diets of heavily processed food for years become the group with a high risk for heart disease and stroke due to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. As of now the CDC recommends a calorie intake of less than 2,300 mg a day. Unfortunately most Americans take in 3,400 mg a day, that is way too much! Good news though, you can lower your risk by eating foods with less sodium and saturated fats. Eat more food that is higher in fiber and try working out 3 to 4 days a week, or at least walking daily. Eating better is proven to stop the onset of type 2 diabetes, many people who are overweight and obese suffer from this or at least pre-diabetes. So it really is up to us as adults...

I never thought about them just freezing in place due to a muscle issue. judging by it being not common, i feel it would be safe to assume its a breeding trait
ReplyDeleteHi, that is strange. I never would have thought it was because of a muscle problem they have. I wonder if their condition of freezing also makes it safer for them to live in a pen because they would not be able to escape predators.
